Overview

Four hours on the Tara River in a packraft. You paddle a stretch of the Tara canyon, which the listing describes as Europe's deepest, with a guide licensed by the International Rafting Federation. The operator states this is the only guide in Montenegro holding that licence. Before anyone gets on the water there is an intro packrafting clinic covering strokes and safety.

The trip starts at a parking area near Bitine, about 3.2 kilometres from the Djurdjevica Tara Bridge when arriving from Zabljak, with a National Park Durmitor wooden house at the river bank on the left side. The start time is 10:00. Equipment is provided in full: packraft, wetsuit, anorak, neoprene booties, helmet, paddle and dry bag. Photos are included, and at the end a transfer takes the group from the finish point back to the meeting point.

This suits reasonably fit travellers who can swim. It is not for non-swimmers, people with back or heart problems, pregnant travellers, or anyone over the 110kg weight limit. Groups are capped at 10 people.

What To Expect From The Tour

A few practical points before booking, drawn from the listing and from what travellers have reported.

Common issues. The listing rules out wheelchair users, non-swimmers, pregnant travellers, anyone over 110kg, and people with back or heart problems, so the fitness bar is real. One reviewer felt the listing oversold the ease of the activity and that the instruction was thin for complete beginners. Getting to the start point is your own responsibility, and drinks are not provided. Weather cancellations can rearrange plans, though a refund or new date is offered.
